Why am I going to live at Denbury Care Home?
There are various reasons children are placed in our home, parents being unwell or are in hospital, it will always for a good reason, and will be for your benefit. It is not punishment, and everything possible will be done to make your stay at Denbury as happy and positive as possible. We are here to support and care for you.
What happens when I get here?
You will be introduced to our staff, who will ask you questions and give you answers and information, dont be frightened to ask questions you need to know. You will be shown to your own bedroom, it will be your bedroom, and you will be encouraged to make it your own with pictures, posters, and photographs. There is a television in your room. We expect you to keep your room clean and tidy, if you maliciously damage your room, you will need to pay for the damage from your pocket money.
Can I have visitors?
Yes, we encourage close family and friends, although those who want to visit are not always able to for various reasons, such as illness, work commitments, or travel. Just let the staff know of any visitor enquiries. Any visitor under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. If there is any person you don’t want visiting, please let us know.
If your parents or guardians are unable to visit, they can phone, weekdays, between 4 pm and 8.30 pm, weekends and holidays, 9 am to 8.30 pm. You can also phone your parents, guardians, or close family. between 4.pm and 8.30 pm, weekend and holidays 9. am to 8.30 pm. A member of staff will arrange any calls you wish to make, so that you will be able to do so privately, in the office.
Will I have pocket money?
Yes, you will receive a monthly pocket money allowance, which? is dependent on your age; it will be kept in the office safe, as will any money sent to you by your parents, guardians, or family. They can also send or bring you treats, games, toys cloths or toiletries. We will check any letters or parcels you may be sent, to make sure that the contents are safe and legal.
Personal care and clothes?
You will get an allowance for cloths, personal hygiene and haircuts. The Staff are here to help you with your purchases, by getting them for you, or by going shopping with a staff member.
Any dramatic changes to your style or hair color will need permission from your parents, guardians, or social worker.
Food and Diets?
You can have three meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On school days, you will have school lunchtime dinners. Please don’t be afraid to tell us your likes and dislikes, and any dietary or religious requirements. Hot and cold drinks are available all day, You can also have sweets with your pocket money. Let a member of staff know what you want.
Bedtimes?
Bedtimes start from 9.00 pm, but the time you go to bed depends on your age.
Bullies and bullying?
Bullying is not tolerated. If you are bullied, threatened, or in any way frightened by others in our home, you must let a member of staff know immediately. We understand bullying makes people very unhappy and frightened. Bullies will be warned, if after being warned, it continues, the culprits will not be welcome in our home.
Can I complain about my care?
Yes, your stay at Denbury Care must be a happy and rewarding experience. Anything, or part of your stay, that you dislike or makes you unhappy and worried about, you must speak to a member of staff or the home manager. If after speaking to the manager, your concerns are not addressed, we will make contact with your parents, guardian, or social worker.
